How to pay for SEO - What this post covers
How to pay for SEO, that is how to settle accounts for search engine optimization, is something everyone should know. New startups pop up all the time while solid companies get pushed aside. It all comes down to price, of course. But for a good car we also expect to pay a fair price, don't we?
First of all, I would like to stress the most important thing! SEO is a PROCESS. It is not a one-off action. SEO cannot be done in a month, two, three or four. Optimization has to happen every day. SEO is not Google Analytics.
What SEO is and how to pay for it
SEO stands for search engine optimization. SEO is billed as a subscription, as a process. We do it all the time, we never stop. We keep an eye on the competition, we monitor, we optimize. SEO does not cost X. It is a "subscription" - a PROCESS that costs Y.
If a company tells you it will do your SEO for a flat €290, it should have gone out of business long ago.
If a company says it will handle your SEO and you will pay, say, €290 per month - okay - we have a process. The question is: for how long? Unless they do it for the lifetime of the domain.
How to influence SEO:
- content, and more content
- the keyword in the slug (URL), meta title, meta description, H1, H2 and paragraph. Preferably early on (look at this post as an example, where the keyword is "how to pay for SEO")
- strong - bolding keywords in the post - not with the B tag, but with STRONG
- a minimum of 900 words
- using external and internal links in your content (anchor texts using the ALT attribute - alternative text). Linking is what we call link building
- the image file name should match the post name, e.g. how-to-pay-for-seo.png, plus adding ALT alternative text to every image
- following the above - at least one or two images per post
- keyword density - people say there are no limits. However, I recommend 5 per 900 words or fewer. With more than 900 words you can add more. Without overdoing it,
- varying your sentence structure
- the right title length (max 65 characters or 200 - 569 pixels) and page description (min 70, max 160, or 600 - 940 pixels)

- a mobile-friendly website. Using technologies such as AMP, PWA, RWD. Possibly a site based on Bootstrap. You can check page speed with, for example, Google PageSpeed Insights
- originality, uniqueness
- updating old posts, pages etc.
- using 301 redirects to avoid 404 pages
- an installed sitemap.xml and robots.txt - you can split the sitemap into categories. See how it looks on my site by clicking
- use navigation - breadcrumbs, pagination. It should be on every page and subpage
- Friendly URLs. A link should look like kamikstudio.com/blog/category/article, not kamikstudio.com/45435345355 or kamikstudio.com/$%2423
- avoid keyword cannibalization - do not use the same keyword on every page / post etc.
There are thousands of other factors. But if you stick to the basics above, you will certainly show up in search results.
What we no longer do in SEO - How to pay for SEO
- We do not submit our sites to SEO directories. If site X has a thousand referring links = it is no longer worth anything. Its "scoring" is zero and worthless,
- meta keywords are also a thing of the past,
A golden thought. SEM vs SEO - How to pay for search engine optimization
Search engine marketing (SEM) is not the same as search engine optimization (SEO).
With SEM, companies pay to take part in an auction where the prize is ad space. The auction winner's ad is displayed in the search engine.
Tagging keywords in your content increases a page's chances of ranking high in search results. This is what we call search engine optimization (SEO). This free approach lets a person or company X reach more potential customers.
However, neither SEM nor SEO gives you free ad space or an optimized website design.
